Assessment
This module is assessed entirely by continuous assessment.
There will be
three components to grade for the project:
-
A written report, as outlined below
-
A multimedia component
-
A presentation to the class (Approx. 10 minutes,
including questions)
Each member of the team should contribute work to every
component, though in
reality, some members may work more on some components than others. The
deadlines for submission can be found
here. Remember, it is up to
your team to
come up with your project idea. We will not assign you
products to market.
Deadline - Thursday 23rd
March, 2005. 5:00pm. Please submit
your report to the appropriate pigeon hole (next to the school office) and
submit all your work for the module to the electronic submission
directory for your team. See notes on how to submit electronically
here.
Please bind with your report a mark apportionment form, available
here.
We will take the weightings given for each team member into account when
assigning your mark for the module. All team members must sign the
form and write their name in block capitals. If this is not done, we will
discard the form.
Multimedia
Work (30%) |
|
You are expected
to produce either; a video
which advertises a product and
its important features, or, a
multimedia based demonstration
of a product. A video
advertisement example is shown
here.
If your product is a piece of
hardware or software you could
show how it works by means of
an interactive demonstration.
Alternatively, your product
could be a video itself - for
example, a guide to the
university campus or the School of
Computer Science Or, you may want to market a
computer game,
creating a short demonstration of its features using tools
like Macromedia Flash or VRML. Your choice of project is at
the discretion of your team and should be discussed with
your supervisor at the project outset.
When you have an
idea, your supervisor will
assist you in designing and
developing it using
multimedia tools. There are maximum time
guidelines for each format,
which you should adhere to. These
are:
-
Product
advertisements -
Maximum of 3 minutes, preferably less.
-
Product
demonstration videos
- Maximum of 5 minutes, preferably
less.
-
Product
interaction demos -
Should take no more than 5 minutes
to explain all features.
Important
Note: Teams are not
expected to travel to remote places
to capture video for their
work, so you are welcome to use
video you find anywhere. The
internet is a good source of
video clips, which can be located using
AltaVista or
AllTheWeb Music and Video
Searches. Where you do
include work from elsewhere, please
reference it in a
'credits' screen at the end of your video. |

Presentation
(20%) |
|
You are required to
produce a presentation which
will include a display of the
multimedia component of your work. The presentation should
detail:
-
What is the
project?
-
Who is it aimed at
and what does it aim
to achieve?
-
After your
description, grab the
attention of your audience with your
multimedia work.
-
What was the process used to develop this
work?
-
What tools were used?
-
Describe and reflect on the process and
tools used.
-
Evaluate your work - how well does it
meet the its requirements?
You should aim for a
talk of approximately 10
minutes, including any questions
that you may be asked by the
assessors or your peers.
Remember not to overload your
slides and select a few
important points to discuss.
Your presentation will account
for 20% of your overall mark.
You should hand in a
printed copy of your slides
with your report and submit them
electronically.
Hint: To save time, you can embed your movie
into your PowerPoint slides. |

Design |
Discuss the design
procedures you have gone
through to produce your work. Show the components and
sequences involved in your design. It is suggested that you
create a storyboard or
interaction diagram (showing key frames) for your
work. Show different design
variants and give a justified reason as to
why you chose your final
design. Much of this section will be marked on
the qualitative aspects of your
practical work. |
